PDF Part 1

Centre Of Mass Means a point where whole mass of body is suppose to be concentrated.

It depends on Shape & size of body.

C.O.M Of a system is independent of Choice of Coordinate system. Velocity of C. O. M remains Constant when total external force on system is zero.

Centre Of Gravity

Centre Of Gravity is a Point where weight of body acts. Centre of gravity coincides with centre of mass of a body.

M.O.I

Mass of a body is a measure of inertia of a body in linear motion. A quantity that measures inertia of Rotational motion is known as Rotational inertia or M. O. I

  • Factors on which I depends
  • Position of axis of Rotation
  • Orientation of Axis of Rotation
  • Shape Of Body
  • Distribution Of mass of body about axis of Rotation.

What is a rigid body?

A Rigid Body is that System of Particles in which mutual distance of Particles remain unchanged even by the application of external force to it. Due to internal forces among particles, the shape & size of rigid body remain unaffected, whatever external forces may be acting on Body.
