Total internal reflection | Critical angle| Conditions, Five applications of T. I. R

Total internal reflection is bouncing back of light in same medium when it travels from denser to rarer medium when it travels at an angle greater than Critical angle

Critical angle is that angle of incidence for which angle of refraction will be 90°.

When light travels from denser to rarer medium at am angle greater than critical angle then it will not refract it will come back in same denser medium that is known as TIR( Total internal reflection)

Applications of TIR

1.Optical fibre: Optical fibers are used to transmit light from one place to another along curved path

Refractive index of core should be greater than refractive index of cladding because light have to travel from optically denser medium to Optically Rarer medium.

2.Brilliance of Diamond 💎| Shining Of diamond: Diamonds & Other precious stones shines due to low value of critical angle.

When light enters the diamond from a face undergoes a series of total internal reflections.

3.Mirage: It is an Optical illusion observed in deserts on a hot day.

In mirage inverted image produces the impression of reflection from a pool of water.

4.Totally reflecting Prism:An isosceles right angled glass prism having angles 45-90-45 can be used to deviate a ray of light through 90° or 180° making use of phenomenon of T. I. R.
